VB Fences is based on Commonwealth Place, just off Indian River Road in Kempsville — and Virginia Beach is where we do most of our work.

Our office sits on Commonwealth Place off Indian River Road, in the heart of Kempsville. Because we are based in the city, Virginia Beach is our busiest service area by a wide margin — from the Kempsville, Aragona, and Thalia neighborhoods near our office out to Great Neck, Red Mill, Salem, and Timberlake. Coverage spans the 23451, 23452, 23453, 23454, 23455, 23456, 23462, and 23464 ZIP codes. Being local means measure visits and installs are easy for our crews to route, so scheduling here is usually the quickest.

From a single damaged section to a full new installation or repair, for homes and businesses.
We work in four materials. Here is how each one is typically used on Virginia Beach properties.
Wood privacy fence is the work we do most and the material we specialize in. It is the standard choice for back-yard privacy across Virginia Beach neighborhoods — built on site, set in concrete, and finished to suit your lot. See wood fencing.
Our second most-requested install. Six-foot vinyl gives full privacy with very little upkeep — no painting or staining — and holds up well to coastal weather. See vinyl fencing.
Most of our aluminum work is 54-inch pool fence, built to meet residential pool barrier code. It gives a clean, open look around a backyard pool without blocking the view. See aluminum fencing.
A practical, budget-friendly option for yards, dog runs, and back property lines where security matters more than privacy. See chain link fencing.
Read from the City of Virginia Beach Fence and Wall Bulletin (rev. Nov. 2025) and Zoning Ordinance § 201. Zoning Administration: (757) 385-8074. We pull the zoning permit, file the survey with it, and submit your HOA package.
Any fence or wall within 30 feet of a public right-of-way needs a zoning permit: $61, pulled by the owner or a Virginia licensed contractor, with a current sealed survey or site plan. A fence deeper than 30 feet from the street on an interior lot does not. Pool barriers always need a building permit and the Pool Barrier Affidavit.
Interior lot: 4 feet inside the front-yard setback (20 to 50 feet, by district), then up to 8 feet once the setback is reached. Corner lot: 4 feet within 10 feet of the side street, 6 feet beyond that, and 8 feet once the 15- to 30-foot side setback is met. Through lot: up to 8 feet along the rear street, with a gate required.
Finished side faces the street. A 4-foot fence within 10 feet of the right-of-way needs Category I landscaping on the street side. Chain link along a right-of-way needs that landscaping its full length. Vinyl or aluminum no more than 50 percent opaque may sit on the right-of-way line with landscaping inside it. Barbed wire and electric fence are prohibited in residential districts.
Installed rates from our current price book, the same numbers on every page of this site.
Most Virginia Beach backyards take 120 to 180 feet of fence. From our price book: 6-foot dog-eared wood privacy $35.13 per linear foot, vinyl privacy $41.00 and up, residential chain link $15.99 to $19.99, commercial 6-foot chain link $21.99 to $27.99. A walk gate adds $545 to $595 installed, a double drive gate $1,123 to $1,287.
A 150-foot run of 6-foot wood privacy with one walk gate lands around $5,800. The same run in vinyl, about $5,200. 54-inch aluminum pool fence is quoted per project.
Oceanfront and bayside lots sit in sand; Kempsville, Salem, and Timberlake sit in heavier soil. Post depth and concrete are sized to what the auger finds, and the written turn-key price holds unless the scope of work changes.

Yes if any part of the fence is within 30 feet of a public right-of-way: a $61 zoning permit, pulled by the owner or a Virginia licensed contractor, with a sealed survey. Fences deeper than 30 feet from the street on an interior lot do not need one. Pool barriers always need a building permit. We pull the permit, survey included, and submit your HOA package.
